Concern Regarding the White House Faith Office

Establishment of the White House Faith Office

The recent establishment of the White House Faith Office by President Donald J. Trump is deeply concerning to us as Pagans and to all who hold religious freedom close to their hearts. While framed as a step to support religious liberty, this initiative is intricately tied to the evangelical right’s Seven Mountains Mandate—a bold and dangerous vision that seeks to bring all aspects of society under Christian influence.

The Seven Mountains Mandate is not just about faith; it is a strategy to gain dominion over seven key areas of life—government, media, education, business, arts and entertainment, family, and religion—through the lens of evangelical Christianity. What this means is that, under the guise of promoting religious freedom, the evangelical movement aims to impose a Christian worldview on all aspects of life, making it harder for minority faiths, including Paganism, to be recognized, respected, or practiced freely.

More evidence of this interpretation can be found in Executive Order of February 6 2025, “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” for the purpose of “Establishing a Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias within the Department of Justice.” Text of this EO includes: “My Administration will ensure that any unlawful and improper conduct, policies, or practices that target Christians are identified, terminated, and rectified.” The Executive Order establishing the White House Faith Office was issued February 7 2025, and includes language that echoes those sentiments.

For the Pagan community, this mandate is not an abstract concern—it is a direct threat to our way of life. It seeks to narrow the understanding of spirituality and impose a singular religious narrative on a diverse, multicultural society. Our beliefs, which celebrate the sacredness of nature, the divine in many forms, and the power of personal spiritual journey, are in danger of being overshadowed by a theology that would seek to define what is acceptable in the eyes of the state.

We must stand together with compassion and resilience. This mandate threatens not only our right to practice freely but the core values of inclusion, diversity, and respect that are fundamental to a fair society. Paganism, along with all faiths that fall outside the evangelical Christian tradition, would be marginalized in favor of one dominant belief system.

Now, more than ever, we must protect our rights, our diversity, and the sacred principle of religious pluralism. Let us be the voices of reason and love in a world that needs to hear from all spiritual paths. Together, we can resist the growing threat of religious exclusivity and work toward a future where all religions are free to thrive, and our diverse spiritual expressions are respected and celebrated.
