Executive orders affecting trans people

The present administration launched attacks on trans people nationwide within days of the inauguration. Three of Trump’s related executive orders are summarized below, and the complete text is available at the Federal Register.
To sum up, Trump states that gender identity does not exist, that there are only two sexes which are immutable, that physician-approved medical care for trans kids is “maiming” and “mutilation,” and that trans people cannot serve in the military because they cannot be “honorable, truthful, or disciplined.”
Elsewhere he states that passports must be issued with the sex assigned at birth, and that trans girls and women should not play sports on girls’ or women’s teams, in any sport, ever.
Other Trump executive orders rescind former President Biden’s orders safeguarding trans people’s rights.
Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government

It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.
“Sex” is not a synonym for and does not include the concept of “gender identity.”
Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation

Jan. 28, 2025
Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions.   This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s [sic] history, and it must end.
Countless children soon regret that they have been mutilated and begin to grasp the horrifying tragedy that they will never be able to conceive children of their own or nurture their children through breastfeeding.  Moreover, these vulnerable youths’ medical bills may rise throughout their lifetimes, as they are often trapped with lifelong medical complications, a losing war with their
own bodies, and, tragically, sterilization.

Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called “transition” of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures.
Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness

Consistent with the military mission and longstanding DoD policy, expressing a false “gender identity” divergent from an individual’s sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service. . . . adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one’s personal life.  A man’s assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is
not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.
