As Pagans—rooted in Earth, spirit, and ancestral memory—we are called to more than beauty and ritual. When the world cries out, when children starve for bread, when people are gunned down for seeking food, when the Earth groans and refugees are caged in detention centers, our practice must meet the moment.
Here are ways we can respond meaningfully, soulfully, and with sacred courage:
- Let ritual lead to real-world action
Ritual should not be an escape from suffering. Let it be a fire that propels you forward. When you light a candle, speak the names of the hungry. When you cast a circle, include all who are excluded and cast out. Let your spellwork support justice, not just self-care. - Ask your divination tools how to serve
Instead of asking what’s coming your way, ask: how can I be of service to the world? What needs tending? What am I not seeing? Let tarot, runes, or spirit messages call you into action. - Support mutual aid and community care
Offer resources to those in need: food, clothing, funds, rides, support. Join or start a mutual aid group in your area. Even simple acts—sharing meals, amplifying fundraisers, showing up—are acts of sacred magic. - Speak up about injustice
Do not stay silent in your circles or online spaces. Speak against the detention and dehumanization of immigrants, the starvation of civilians in war zones, and the slow violence of climate collapse. Use your voice, even when it’s uncomfortable. - Make offerings that nourish the world
Set aside a portion of your altar or ritual to honor those in cages, those in tents, those in mourning. Offer food, money, or time to shelters, bail funds, and direct relief efforts. Let your offerings feed both spirit and body. - Reclaim the sacred in civic life
Protest is ritual. Voting, writing letters, standing in witness, raising funds—all of these can be done with magical intent. Call upon the ancestors, the elements, and the spirits of justice to guide your hands and heart. - Hold each other accountable
Challenge spiritual bypassing. Reject “love and light” messages that ignore systemic injustice. Ask your community: is our practice aligned with compassion and courage, or just comfort? - Honor the Earth and all her children
The Earth is not just forest and stone—she is the refugee mother, the imprisoned child, the dehydrated farmer, the suffocated city. Let your environmental work include all beings who suffer under systems of violence and greed. - Use your platform, no matter how small
Share the stories that are ignored. Lift up activists and healers. Post fundraisers, petitions, and educational resources. Even if only a few people listen, that’s still a ripple of magic. - Let your grief transform you
It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Let your grief be your teacher. Sit with it. Cry for the world. Then rise, in power and in purpose.
A prayer to carry in your heart:
I walk in devotion to justice.
My magic is rooted in the living Earth and the dignity of all people.
May my hands bring healing. May my words speak truth.
May my spirit stay brave.
